Garage 59 Secures Pole for 6 Hours of Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain – Garage 59’s #10 McLaren GT3 Evo has claimed pole position in the LMGT3 class for tomorrow’s 6 Hours of Barcelona, with British driver Tom Fleming clocking a best lap of 1:40.933 during Hyperpole. This marks the team’s second pole of the season, following a strong qualifying performance that saw them dethrone The Bend Manthey’s Riccardo Pera.
Fleming stated, “Credit to the team, constantly performing and producing a good package,” highlighting the smooth transition he experienced after competing in a separate event in Portugal. His confidence in the team was echoed by Antares Au, who contributed to the car’s setup, stating, “To see our collective effort come together in qualifying is a real reward today, but the work’s not done.”
Pera’s impressive 1:41.055 secured the second position for the #92 Porsche, with Simon Mann’s #21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari finishing third after leading in Free Practice 3.
Championship leader Jonny Edgar positioned the #33 TF Sport Corvette fourth, setting a strong foundation for potential title clinching in tomorrow’s race. Meanwhile, the second Corvette, under the Racing Team Turkey banner, qualified 10th after Peter Dempsey set the fastest time in the first qualifying stage.
The Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG finished fifth, while the #32 Team WRT BMW, fresh off a victory in Japan, will start from sixth. In contrast, Aston Martin faced a challenging qualification; neither Vantage LMGT3 made it into Hyperpole, with Ian James’ #27 car starting last in 15th position.
Hyperpole qualifying will continue with the Hypercar session scheduled for this afternoon at 15:40 local time, following Free Practice 3 for the top class.
