Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001 Hypercar Advances Toward 2026 Debut

Le Castellet, France – July 9, 2025 – Genesis Magma Racing achieved a significant milestone with the successful fire-up of its GMR-001 Hypercar prototype at Le Castellet. This marks a crucial step in the car’s development as the team prepares for its FIA World Endurance Championship debut in 2026.

The GMR-001 is Genesis’ first full test chassis, built at ORECA’s workshop, with contributions from both ORECA staff and Genesis engineers. The project commenced immediately after the Le Mans 24 Hours event last month, reflecting a collaborative effort towards tight development timelines.

Cyril Abiteboul, team principal, described the fire-up as “a huge step in the story of Genesis Magma Racing,” underscoring the importance of reaching this point on schedule. The engine, derived from Hyundai Motorsport’s championship-winning WRC powertrain, successfully underwent tests through all seven gears, alongside the validation of its hybrid system.

The integration of the engine into the GMR-001 chassis has been in progress since June 2024, with rigorous dyno testing ensuring performance and efficiency prior to this significant development. With track testing planned for the end of August, the team aims to finalize additional chassis builds shortly thereafter.

Technical Director FX Demaison highlighted the importance of collaboration with ORECA, noting that the fire-up confirms the progress made and sets the stage for the next phase of testing.

The synergy between Genesis Magma Racing and ORECA has been pivotal, with both teams focusing on bringing together their respective expertise to meet the demanding timeline for the GMR-001’s successful development.

As the team moves forward, the motorsport community awaits the first track outings, marking Genesis Magma Racing’s entry into the highly competitive world of Hypercar racing.
