Ginetta Joins SRO’s GT Academy Initiative for 2026 GT2 European Series
Ginetta has officially partnered with SRO Motorsports Group to support the GT Academy initiative, set to launch in the 2026 GT2 European Series. This partnership was revealed just ahead of the 2023 24 Hours of Spa, marking Ginetta as the third manufacturer to commit to the program, following Maserati and Mercedes-AMG.
The GT Academy aims to recognize the fastest and safest Silver-graded driver under 30, offering the winner a funded drive in a customer GT3-spec Mercedes-AMG for the 2027 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. Currently, eligibility is limited to drivers competing in Maserati, Mercedes-AMG, or Ginetta vehicles, although SRO has hinted at the inclusion of additional manufacturers in the future.
Ginetta’s involvement coincides with the race debut of its G56 GT2 at the Barcelona circuit. SRO’s existing program in the FFSA French GT Championship has already proven fruitful, with the 2025 winner, Gaspard Simon, receiving €150,000 towards a GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup seat.
“It’s a vindication of our ethos to have a Ginetta alongside other factory GT2 marques,” stated Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson. “With SRO recognizing GT2 as a pathway to GT3, our role in shaping future champions is now clearer.”
Mike Simpson, Ginetta Motorsport CEO, emphasized the importance of the partnership, remarking, “This ensures that a young Silver driver can progress from any level of motorsport to GT3, with the GT2 category as the next crucial step.”
