Ginetta Enters GT2 Arena with New Sports Car Development
Yorkshire-based sports car manufacturer Ginetta is making its mark on the motorsport landscape with the announcement of a new vehicle for SRO’s GT2 platform, set to debut in the 2024 SRO GT2 Series Powered by Pirelli. According to Mike Simpson, Ginetta’s CEO of motorsport, the new model is an evolution of the GTX, which previously clinched victories at the 2024 24 Hours of Dubai and the Middle East Cup.
“The GTX was introduced with a successful trial at Spa last year, and we are now significantly advanced in the development of our GT2 car,” Simpson stated.
The GT2 will utilize Ginetta’s established G56 chassis, shared with the Spec GTP8 and GT4 Evo models. Notable enhancements include a revamped front end engineered for high downforce and reduced drag. Simpson believes this car aims to attract trackday enthusiasts and bolster participation in the GT2 European Series, which has seen varied grid sizes since its launch in 2021.
“GT2 is an engaging environment; it’s aimed at amateur drivers looking for competitive yet enjoyable racing,” Simpson added. He emphasized the market potential, stating, “We have numerous customers eager for an exciting driving experience with our new GT2 model.”
As plans advance, Ginetta’s initial production will consist of ten units, with five expected to hit the market by the end of 2025. Clive Seddon, Ginetta’s technical director, offered insights on the project, noting that the focus has been on optimizing the power-to-weight ratio.
Key upgrades include a carbon body and an innovative front splitter design, which enhances both strength and aerodynamic performance. The car will feature a modified in-house built 6.2L V8 engine with forced induction, reaching nearly 800 bhp in dyno testing, although it will be detuned to approximately 630 bhp for competition purposes.
Simpson encapsulated Ginetta’s ambitions: “We aim to deliver a fantastic GT2 car that meets the commercial requirements of SRO while remaining affordable. Our background in motorsports gives us a unique edge.”
More details about this promising addition to the GT2 series will be unveiled later this year.
