Johor Corvette Debuts in GT Open 500 at Spa
The upcoming GT Open 500 at Spa will feature a notable entry: the Corvette Z06 GT3 R, making its International GT Open debut. Entered by Johor Motorsport JMR, the Malaysian team is gaining traction in the Asian GT circuit. Behind the wheel will be brothers Prince Jefri Abrahim and Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim, marking a royal representation in the event. Jefri, who participated in last year’s Spa GT Open 500, returns eager to optimize the car’s performance alongside his younger sibling.
Andrea Montermini Returns with Mertel Motorsport
Veteran driver Andrea Montermini is rejoining the GT Open, confirmed as the pilot for the #80 Ferrari 488 alongside Luca Ludwig for the remainder of the season. Turning 60 soon, Montermini is keen to leverage his extensive experience to elevate Mertel Motorsport. "I’m delighted to be back ‘home’ to a championship that means a lot to me," he remarked, highlighting his anticipation for the upcoming races.
With two titles and 20 race wins, Montermini stands as the most celebrated driver in GT Open history, a status he shares with Miguel Ramos, who is also back this season.
Rinaldi Racing’s Return
Rinaldi Racing, a long-standing competitor in the GT series, is set to re-enter the International GT Open for the GT Open 500. The team will campaign a Ferrari 296 GT3, driven by Bronze-rated Christian Hook and Felipe Fernandez-Laser, who is making his Series debut. Led by Michele Rinaldi, the team aims to establish a strong presence in the championship, with plans to compete in the Barcelona round later this season.
