Honda appears set to announce a factory entry in the Hypercar category for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), following advanced discussions with suppliers and race organizers. Multiple industry sources indicate that final approval from Honda’s headquarters in Japan is expected shortly.

The initiative will likely involve a re-badged Acura ARX-06, currently racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship under a joint Meyer Shank Racing and HRC USA effort. This marks a significant development as Honda aims to expand its presence in global endurance racing.

While Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has explored privateer opportunities in the upcoming 2026/2027 Asian Le Mans Series, this initiative is distinctly a factory-supported program, setting it apart from other potential entries.

Should the program be officially confirmed, Honda will join Ford and McLaren as debutants in the 2027 WEC season, utilizing a proven platform that has already secured victories in North America.

Further insights from sources suggest that Inter Europol Competition is the frontrunner to serve as the service provider for the Honda Hypercar entry. The Polish team, renowned for its successes in the LMP2 class, notably at the Le Mans 24 Hours and IMSA championship, declined to comment on the speculation during an inquiry at the Asian Le Mans Series paddock in Dubai.

Inter Europol has claimed multiple podium finishes, including two class wins at Le Mans and a strong showing in the IMSA WeatherTech series, where it finished second and third in the recent Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. The team’s established competitive pedigree reinforces its suitability for aiding Honda’s return to international sports car racing.

This prospective WEC program is not anticipated to jeopardize Honda’s ongoing participation in the IMSA Acura GTP program, ensuring that its existing commitments are maintained.
