Hyundai Motorsport Bolsters Management Ahead of FIA WEC Debut
Hyundai Motorsport has announced key personnel changes in preparation for its FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) debut in 2026, introducing Sébastien Metz as Operations Director and Massimo Carriero as Head of Engineering, effective January 1, 2026. Both roles are newly created as the company gears up for its Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001 Hypercar program.
Metz, previously the Motorsports Business Director at Multimatic, brings extensive experience from his tenure with teams including Ligier Automotive and Volkswagen Motorsport. He stated, “I am truly honoured to be joining Hyundai Motorsport. It is a great source of pride to have my experience and professionalism recognised by a manufacturer of such stature.”
Carriero, currently serving as Principal Test and Development Engineer at McLaren, has a solid background with M-Sport in both sportscar and rally disciplines. He expressed enthusiasm about joining the team, noting, “Sharing my time with Cyril [Abiteboul], FX [Demaison], and Hyundai Motorsport is a valuable opportunity.”
Hyundai Motorsport President Cyril Abiteboul emphasized the strategic importance of these appointments, stating, “The additions of Sébastien and Massimo are a key step in our future. Their experience across rallying and endurance racing aligns with our current focus, enhancing our operational efficiency.”
This restructuring follows the earlier appointment of Andrew Wheatley as Sporting Director for the WRC team, further solidifying Hyundai’s commitment to its motorsport programs.
