Barnicoat Returns to Racing After Rehabilitation

Watkins Glen, NY — Ben Barnicoat has officially resumed his 2025 racing campaign, marking his return to Vasser Sullivan Racing in the #14 Lexus RC F GT3 after a three-month recovery from a mountain biking accident. His absence had extended through four IMSA races and three FIA World Endurance Championship events, leaving a significant void in his team’s performance.

"I’m sorry that I let them down," Barnicoat stated, reflecting on the challenges of his recovery and the support he received from Lexus Racing, Vasser Sullivan, and Akkodis ASP. His accident occurred while preparing for the Twelve Hours of Sebring and resulted in more serious injuries than initially believed, prompting an extensive rehabilitation period.

During his recovery, Barnicoat managed to maintain his skills through simulation training and limited driving opportunities, focusing on both GT3 and NASCAR vehicles. "It was great to keep my driving sharp," he noted, acknowledging the mental aspect of staying engaged without physical racing.

On resuming competitive action, Barnicoat expressed satisfaction with his first practice session at Watkins Glen, in which he secured a strong second place in class. "Happy to be back," he confirmed, as the Vasser Sullivan team steadily regained its competitive stature, culminating in a top-five finish in Detroit prior to his return.

Looking ahead, Barnicoat acknowledged the uphill battle his team faces in the GTD PRO championship with only six races remaining. "The goal for everyone now is just to win races," he remarked candidly, emphasizing their focus on performance rather than championship standings.

Despite the setbacks, Barnicoat’s resolve remains strong, driven by a desire to maximize his potential and contribute to the team’s success. "I never want to miss a race again for the rest of my career," he concluded, acknowledging how the experience has reshaped his perspective on racing and personal safety.

As Barnicoat rejoins the track, all eyes will be on his performance as he aims to end the #14 car’s victory drought that stretches back to the 2024 Grand Prix of Long Beach.
