IMSA Announces 2027 Schedule with Return of Lime Rock Park
The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) has officially revealed its 2027 season calendar, with the much-anticipated return of Lime Rock Park as a standout highlight. This announcement, made during the Sebring event, signals a period of stability and growth for IMSA, underlined by increased manufacturer commitment and surging fan attendance.
IMSA President John Doonan emphasized the significance of releasing the next season’s schedule well in advance, noting, “This is now the third year in a row that we’ve been so fortunate to announce the next season’s schedule here at Sebring.” This shift from a once-later release to an earlier confirmation is not just procedural; it empowers teams and sponsors with sufficient planning time.
The 2027 calendar maintains its venues and race formats, with only a slight date adjustment for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Doonan stated, “It would be tough to add races… every time you add a weekend, the budgets go up.” Instead, IMSA is focusing on optimizing existing resources, such as increasing sanctioned testing opportunities to lower costs for teams.
Key developments include:
- Lime Rock Park’s Return: After a hiatus, Lime Rock Park will reignite its historical connection with IMSA fans, as circuit manager Dicky Riegel expressed enthusiasm for welcoming the series back: “We’re coming back to little Lime Rock Park… every group is beyond thrilled to welcome IMSA back.”
- Testing Programs: In 2027, IMSA plans to introduce an official testing schedule prior to key events, aiming to consolidate costs for teams and enhance competitive readiness.
Noteworthy anniversaries featured in the upcoming season include:
- 75th 12 Hours of Sebring
- 65th Rolex 24
- 30th Petit Le Mans
- 70th anniversary of Laguna Seca
Doonan hinted at special traditions for these milestone events, reinforcing IMSA’s commitment to its historical roots while building for the future. The 2027 calendar thus stands as a testament to the organization’s resilience, strategic planning, and renewed focus on fan engagement and operational sustainability.
