Kakunoshin Ohta, the promising Japanese driver, has swiftly made his mark in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship during his first partial season. Driving the HRC-engineered #93 Acura ARX-06 for Acura Meyer Shank Racing, Ohta has impressed in prestigious events, including the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Watkins Glen, and Indianapolis, while also gaining valuable experience in the LMP2 class with Era Motorsport.
Having previously raced in Japan’s SUPER GT and Super Formula, Ohta’s transition to IMSA has revealed his readiness to compete internationally. “I want to challenge in a different country and fight against the top-level drivers around the world,” Ohta stated upon joining the series.
The 26-year-old showcased his abilities early on, even leading laps during the Rolex 24. However, a suspension failure impacted his performance and prevented a podium finish. Ohta engaged in thrilling battles with top competitors like Romain Grosjean and Frederik Vesti, underscoring his competitive spirit. “This competition is so tough and competitive,” he acknowledged, referring to the level of talent presented in IMSA.

Ohta’s multifaceted schedule includes competing in Super Formula, where he is currently third in the standings with six wins through his first 25 starts. His performance in IMSA contributes positively to his overall development as he balances multiple racing commitments.
Looking ahead, Ohta anticipates returning for his fourth Super Formula season and a second in IMSA, with hopes for increased IndyCar testing opportunities. “I’m a Honda factory driver, and so I have to always think about what I should do,” he reflected on his future. As he continues to break barriers and build his reputation, Ohta is poised to become a significant figure in global motorsport.
