GT2 European Series at Misano: Race Report

Race 1 Summary – Saturday

In a standout debut at the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli at Misano, ART-Line clinched a commanding Pro-Am victory while Philippe Prette solidified his lead in the Am class, achieving his fifth win of the season.

The pair of Shota Abkhazava and Egor Orudzhev, driving the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2, showcased expert handling to secure Pro-Am honors. Prette, in the #1 LP Racing Maserati, started from pole position and quickly built a 13-second lead within the first 20 minutes. Abkhazava held second place during the early stages, while the battle for third switched among several competitors, including Bronek Formanek’s Lamborghini.

After an early pit stop, Abkhazava handed over to Orudzhev, who faced the task of overcoming Prette’s commanding 10-second lead. Ultimately, Prette was overtaken with just five minutes remaining, allowing Orudzhev to finish 3.4 seconds ahead for ART-Line’s debut victory. Nil Montserrat and DL Racing’s Diego Locanto and Luca Segù completed the Pro-Am podium.

In the Am class, Luca Pirri and Stéphane Ratel claimed second place in the #88 LP Racing Audi, while the #789 RTR Projects KTM of Petr Lisa and Viktor Mraz rounded out the top three.

Race 2 Summary – Sunday

DL Racing capped off a successful weekend, taking Pro-Am victory in Race 2, while Philippe Prette achieved a double win in Am, marking his sixth of the season.

The race began with a strategic advantage for Diego Locanto and Luca Segù in the #72 Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2, who swiftly gained the lead and never looked back, finishing with a nine-second margin. Segù’s aggressive start allowed him to capitalise, moving past Nil Montserrat’s pole-sitting Mercedes-AMG, who ultimately fell back to fifth.

After handing over to Locanto, their lead remained unchallenged. Roberto Pampanini secured second for DINAMIC Motorsport, while Mičánek Motorsport’s Bronek Formanek and Stefan Rosina finished third in the Pro-Am class, maintaining a secure points margin at the top of the standings.

Prette maintained control over the Am class, achieving victory with a lights-to-flag performance, while his teammates in the Audi R8 LMS GT2 clinched second, leading to a strong show from LP Racing. The #53 Akkodis ASP Mercedes-AMG team completed the podium in Am.

With four of six events in the books, the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli moves to Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia from September 19-21, followed by the season finale at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on October 10-12.
