Ginetta Celebrates Strong Start to 2025 Racing Season
Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson expressed satisfaction with the early performance of the joined Ginetta LMP3 programme at the 2025 British GT Championship. The season opener at Donington Park showcased the debut of the latest LMP3 contender and featured three one-make Ginetta Championships.
DKR Engineering fielded competitive entries in both the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and Michelin Le Mans Cup, although a mechanical issue halted the ELMS effort prematurely. Tomlinson remarked on the promising pace DKR demonstrated, especially considering the limited test time prior to the race.
"We were super pleased with it," Tomlinson noted. "The cars really aren’t quite in the window yet so we have quite a bit of speed to come. The temperature management and reliability were impressive, but we faced a frustrating kill switch issue late in the ELMS race."
Tomlinson detailed the challenges faced by Freddie Tomlinson, who encountered early contact in the Le Mans Cup. A miscommunication among the team regarding a quick repair compounded the issue, leading to valuable laps lost.
Looking ahead, Ginetta aims to expand its LMP3 participation, with plans to run two cars in the Road to Le Mans event. Their core business remains firmly anchored in producing one-make GT models, with recent investments revamping these offerings for improved competitiveness.
"There’s been a significant investment and attention to the range in recent months," Tomlinson stated, highlighting the introduction of updates for the Ginetta Junior, aimed at lowering costs and improving team usability.
Amidst these developments, Tomlinson confirmed a robust commitment to enhancing grid numbers across championships, setting ambitious targets for Ginetta’s involvement in both the British GT and the SRO series.
"We want to increase our grid numbers significantly by the end of the year. Overall, we’re targeting 87 cars under the British GT package," he said.
In addition to the existing models, Ginetta is exploring opportunities within the struggling GT2 class, leveraging experiences gained from the LMP3 and GT4 developments.
As the series progresses, Ginetta Juniors, the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship, and Ginetta GT Academy will continue to contribute to the support bill for the forthcoming Oulton Park round of the British GT Championship.
Ginetta’s commitment to fostering new talent and enhancing motorsport access remains a priority, aligning with Tomlinson’s vision of creating pathways for young drivers to thrive within the competitive racing landscape.
