Mahiki Racing Prepares for Ambitious 2026 British GT Season Post-Turbulent 2025

In a year marked by significant challenges and transformations, Mahiki Racing is gearing up for an ambitious transition into GT3 competition, armed with new McLaren machinery. The Stoke-on-Trent team encountered a turbulent 2025 British GT season that tested their resilience, from mid-season manufacturer changes to on-track incidents.

The season commenced at Donington Park, where Mahiki faced immediate hurdles, including a significant fire incident involving their GT4 car at Brands Hatch. This pivotal event hastened the team’s timeline to enter GT3. Team owner Steven Lake noted, “These things happen,” emphasizing a perspective-focused approach amidst adversity.

Despite these setbacks, Mahiki showcased commendable performances, culminating in a seventh pole position at the season finale. Drivers Luke Garlick and Blake Angliss clinched the team’s best finish of the year with a strong second-place effort in the final race. “We’ve put a lot of learning into place,” Lake reflected, attributing their resilience to lessons from early GT3 testing, which will inform their upcoming season.

As they pivot to McLaren for the next chapter, Lake highlighted the strategic decision to move forward with mid-engined cars due to their driving appeal and the strong technical support provided by McLaren Motorsport, particularly from Rob Bell. “He was a big factor in choosing them,” Lake remarked, praising the genuine engagement from the manufacturer.

For 2026, Mahiki’s dual GT3-GT4 program will begin with the Silverstone 500, an endurance event critical for the team to assess its competitive positioning against established professionals. With a clear vision and renewed purpose, Mahiki Racing looks poised for growth, transforming Lake’s initial hobby into a structured, ambitious racing program. The journey from adversity to ambition marks just the beginning of their next phase in British motorsport.
