McDonald Debuts in WEC with TF Sport’s Corvette at Imola
Blake McDonald is set to make his FIA World Endurance Championship debut this weekend at Imola, stepping in for the injured Ben Keating in the #33 TF Sport Corvette Z06 LMGT3.R. The opportunity arises as Keating recovers from an elbow injury incurred during a mountain biking accident.
McDonald expressed enthusiasm about his late-entry role, stating, “It was an immediate ‘yes’. I’m extremely excited.” With recent experience in the GT World Challenge America and the Asian Le Mans Series, the Ohio native is poised to leverage his familiarity with the Corvette platform.
The TF Sport team enters the 2026 season with a renewed focus on championship success after finishing fifth and sixth in the standings last year, despite showing competitive pace. Team principal Tom Ferrier acknowledged a sense of unfinished business, emphasizing that the objective remains to contend for the title. “Last year, I don’t think we were a million miles away from winning the championship,” Ferrier noted.
McDonald’s maiden race coincides with the restructured roster that now includes Jonny Edgar and Corvette factory driver Nicky Catsburg, while TF Sport’s second entry, now branded as Racing Team Turkey (#34), features Charlie Eastwood, Peter Dempsey, and Salih Yoluc.
Ferrier remains optimistic about their prospects despite the lineup change. “Both cars were evenly matched but had issues. We gave up a lot of points,” he remarked. With a strategic tire change to a Medium compound for this season, the team feels better suited to the Corvette’s strengths.
The season-opening race at Imola marks a significant event for TF Sport, which has enjoyed previous success there in the European Le Mans Series. “I’m happy we’re starting the season this week, and with a Prologue,” Ferrier stated, reflecting on the track’s importance to the team.
This year’s WEC promises to be competitive, with crews adapting to the strategic elements that have become a hallmark of endurance racing. As the first race unfolds, all eyes will be on McDonald and TF Sport’s renewed pursuit of the championship.
