McLaren Racing Advances Hypercar Program in FIA WEC

McLaren Racing’s CEO, Zak Brown, has announced significant progress in the team’s upcoming Hypercar program in partnership with United Autosports, including the signing of two drivers who have yet to be publicly named. In an interview with ELMS TV during the recent 4 Hours of Silverstone, Brown outlined the strategic driver lineup that aims for success in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

“We aim to blend experience with youth,” said Brown, indicating that the team will utilize two full-season drivers per car and a third driver for major events such as Le Mans and Qatar. This two-driver approach is designed for shorter races, although adjustments will be made for longer events.

Brown previously hinted at the potential participation of McLaren’s Formula One drivers, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, in the Hypercar lineup at Le Mans, stating, “They’ve said they’d love to go race Le Mans… that will definitely be an option down the road.”

The team is committed to maintaining its presence across multiple racing categories, including LMP2 and LMGT3, even as it transitions into the Hypercar arena. Brown reiterated, “We want to continue with that, the ELMS series, and Asia. Richard never talks about scaling back.”

As McLaren Racing prepares for its Hypercar debut, the team’s focus remains clear: securing competitive drivers and sustaining its robust racing heritage across various platforms.
