GT2 European Series: Spa 24 Hours Results

The GT2 European Series, held alongside the Spa 24 Hours, featured a modest field of nine GT2 cars. As anticipation builds for the upcoming Ginetta GT2 project, the series faces challenges in increasing grid participation despite the availability of numerous GT2-spec cars.

Race 1 Highlights

In the opening race, Bronek Formanek and Stefan Rosina secured their fourth Pro-Am victory of the season, further extending their lead in the standings. The duo drove the #11 Mičánek Motorsport Lamborghini, starting from pole. Formanek expertly navigated initial challenges, including light rain, maintaining control against competitors.

The team faced a seven-second success penalty from Zandvoort, which compounded to a 13-second penalty after returning from their pit stop. Despite these setbacks, the duo stayed ahead, finishing 17 seconds clear of the second-place #7 DINAMIC Motorsport Maserati, driven by Mauro Calamia and Roberto Pampanini. Mato Homola clinched third place for #89 RTR Projects KTM with a last-lap pass.

Philippe Prette, driving the #1 LP Racing Maserati, recorded his fourth Am class win, comfortably outpacing Oliver Freymuth in the #24 AKF Motorsport Lamborghini.

Race 1 Results:

  • Pro-Am: 1. #11 Lamborghini (Formanek/Rosina), 2. #7 Maserati (Calamia/Pampanini), 3. #89 KTM (Homola/Kajaia)
  • Am: 1. #1 Maserati (Prette), 2. #24 Lamborghini (Freymuth), 3. #53 Mercedes-AMG (Gibon/Bourret)

Race 2 Highlights

In a repeat performance, Formanek and Rosina claimed their fifth Pro-Am win in the second race, overcoming a five-second penalty incurred during the formation lap. The Lamborghini fended off the #7 Maserati and #89 KTM during the initial phase, with Rosina initially pulling ahead, then serving an additional 10-second pit stop penalty.

The lead shifted during pit stops, with Davit Kajaia’s KTM emerging first. However, Formanek’s pace allowed him to overtake Kajaia in the final minutes, sealing the win. The KTM finished second, followed by the Maserati in third.

In the Am class, Petr Lisa and Viktor Mraz won dramatically after Philippe Prette’s early lead was disrupted by a pit stop due to damage. Lisa took the lead in the closing moments after Gibon’s mistake, capturing their inaugural victory in the series.
