Pfaff Motorsports Prepares Backup Lamborghini for Race at Road America Following Practice Accident
In a dramatic turn of events, Pfaff Motorsports is set to compete at Road America with a backup Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 after a major accident during final practice. Driver Marco Mapelli collided with the ORECA LMP2 of Benjamin Pedersen near pit entry, resulting in significant damage to the team’s primary car.
The incident left Pfaff’s #9 Lamborghini—affectionately named "Giulia"—with a broken chassis at the right rear, along with irreparable damage to both the gearbox and engine. This car was a recent addition for Pfaff Motorsports, marking their first venture as a Lamborghini customer since December.
Promptly, Lamborghini coordinated assistance from fellow customer team Forte Racing, which provided a backup car already located at the track. While Wayne Taylor Racing also offered support, their spare vehicle remained at their shop near Indianapolis.
Pfaff’s team worked diligently, completing the assembly of the backup car, dubbed "Bonnie," by 11:47 PM local time. Although it missed an initial hardship lap, "Bonnie" successfully passed technical inspection and is set to start from the tenth position in the GTD PRO category.
As Pfaff Motorsports gears up for today’s race, the resilience demonstrated in the face of adversity will be a focal point for fans and competitors alike.
