Porsche Unveils Retro Liveries for Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring
Sebring, FL — Ahead of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Porsche Penske Motorsport has unveiled two special-liveried Porsche 963s, commemorating a 30-year partnership with Mobil 1. The design is inspired by the iconic 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans livery of the Porsche 911 GT1.
The #6 and #7 Porsche 963s feature the familiar blue and red accents reflective of the 911 GT1, a vehicle that debuted at Le Mans three decades ago and claimed victory in 1998 under the factory team. Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport, remarked, “The close and highly trusted partnership…has produced countless unforgettable moments and lasting innovations.” He highlighted that the anniversary coincides with the celebration of 75 years of Porsche Motorsport.
Both race cars will display decals acknowledging the dual anniversaries—30 years with Mobil 1 and 75 years for Porsche Motorsport. This year marks an important competitive season for Porsche in the IMSA series, where operational details can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
Urs Kuratle, director of factory motorsport LMDh, noted the invaluable contributions of Mobil 1 to their current racing program, stating, “In the tightly contested IMSA series, the smallest details make the difference…” The champions from the past two years, including a recent win at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, underscore their strong performance.
The driver lineup for the race includes Kévin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor, and Matt Campbell in the blue-accented #6, while Felipe Nasr, Julien Andlauer, and Laurin Heinrich will compete in the red-accented #7. The team aims for a record-extending 20th overall win at Sebring, further enriching its legacy as it embarks on Team Penske’s 60th anniversary season.
Last year, the #7 Porsche 963 achieved a dominant 1-2 finish in the GTP class, continuing a successful streak that included victories at both Long Beach and Laguna Seca.
As the race approaches, all eyes will be on Porsche as it seeks to solidify its historical dominance in endurance racing.
