Théo Pourchaire Joins Peugeot’s FIA WEC Hypercar Lineup for 2026

Peugeot has officially announced that Théo Pourchaire, the 2023 Formula 2 champion, will join their full-time FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar roster starting in 2026. Pourchaire will make his competitive debut in the 9X8 at the Bahrain International Circuit during this year’s season finale, filling in for departing driver Stoffel Vandoorne.

Pourchaire’s promotion follows a successful stint as a development driver, which included 17 laps during the Bahrain Rookie Test in November 2024 and participation in private test sessions, including a recent test at Circuit of the Americas (CoTA). In addition, he has been competing in the LMP2 class with Algarve Pro Racing, further enhancing his credentials in endurance racing.

“Théo continues his learning process with the 9X8, and this race represents a logical step in his integration into the Hypercar programme,” stated Olivier Jansonnie, Peugeot Sport’s technical director. He underscored Pourchaire’s adaptation to endurance racing and his commitment since the initiative began.

Pourchaire expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “I am super happy… I can’t wait to take the start of this legendary race in the top category behind the wheel of the 9X8.”

Stoffel Vandoorne’s departure comes after he completed 13 WEC races with Peugeot, achieving two Hyperpole qualifications, including one at Spa-Francorchamps. Jansonnie thanked Vandoorne for his contributions and wished him the best in his future endeavors.

Peugeot has also confirmed that New Zealander Nick Cassidy will join their team as a full-time WEC driver in 2026, indicating a notable shift in the team’s driver lineup in preparation for the future.
