SRO GT PowerTour Set to Break Records at Fuji Speedway

Fuji Speedway will host a record-setting SRO GT PowerTour this weekend, July 11-13, attracting a combined total of 56 entries in the GT World Challenge Asia and SRO Japan Cup. This surpasses last year’s best of 49 entries for a dual championship event and marks the third consecutive year that Fuji will feature the largest GT3 grid in Asia, totaling 46 cars.

The GT World Challenge Asia’s provisional entry list includes 31 cars, with notable returning entries such as the #18 Porsche Center Okazaki 911 GT3 R and the reigning European Le Mans Series LMGT3 Champion’s #98 Ferrari 296 GT3. Both feature Hiroshi Hamaguchi, who recently won the Gold Cup at the Spa 24 Hours.

Several team updates have emerged:

  • The #8 EBM Mercedes-AMG sees Andrew Bentley replace Martin Berry, who has prioritized commitments in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
  • Alessio Picariello rejoins the #4 Origine Motorsport Porsche alongside Lu Wei.
  • Young Malaysian driver Nazim Azman will debut in the #321 Absolute Racing Porsche.
  • Darryl O’Young will drive the #77 Mercedes-AMG, marking his return as a competitor since 2019.

Moving to the SRO Japan Cup, a particularly strong lineup includes three additional Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 entries. Team Daishin and Galah Racing will add competitive fire to the Nissan stable, with experienced racers behind the wheel, including Ryuichiro Oyagi and veteran Natsu Sakaguchi.

The Japan Cup also welcomes an intriguing array of teams and driver changes, which includes six Porsche GT3 Cup cars in the GTC class and an influx of new teams like AWD Racing, founded by Super Taikyu veteran Jake Parsons.

Qualifying and all four 60-minute races will be broadcast live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel, offering both Japanese and English commentary. Fans who attended recent events at Fuji will have the opportunity to join the grid walks at no cost, further enhancing the experience.

As the event approaches, excitement builds for what promises to be an extraordinary weekend of GT racing at Fuji.
