Genesis Magma Racing Prepares for FIA WEC Debut

Genesis Magma Racing is making significant strides ahead of its FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) debut scheduled for March 2025. The team’s lineup features a blend of experience and fresh talent, with Mathieu Jaminet and Paul Loup Chatin joining from Porsche and Alpine respectively, alongside Mathys Jaubert and Dani Juncadella, who are advancing from the Trajectory Programme. Jamie Chadwick serves as the reserve driver, completing a competitive roster.

Sporting director Gabriele Tarquini emphasized the team’s strategic approach: “The target for us was to have a good mix of experience, youth, and speed.” This balanced composition aims to enhance both the team dynamics and car development.

During a recent test at Barcelona, the initial indications were positive regarding team cohesion. Andre Lotterer remarked, “The atmosphere has been amazing…it’s just as good as my Audi days.” Pipo Derani echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the pleasure of working alongside the new drivers.

Both Jaminet and Chatin bring vital Hypercar expertise. Jaminet, coming off a championship season, expressed enthusiasm for the change: “It wasn’t an easy decision…but I felt it was the right time to try and create history with Genesis.” His early experiences with the GMR-001 have been encouraging but tempered with realism; he stated, “You can’t catch up in just a few months to what people have done over the last four years.”

Chatan, currently under contract with Alpine until the end of the year, was unable to participate fully in the Barcelona test but remains optimistic. He highlighted the team’s collaborative spirit, stating, “There is no ego inside the team…everyone wants to move in the right direction together.”

Jaubert and Juncadella face the challenge of adapting to Hypercar machinery after success in LMP2. Juncadella reflected on his Formula 1 simulator experience, stating, “Adapting is important,” while Jaubert expressed confidence in developing the GMR-001: “It’s easier to put me in a car that is developing.”

The strategic decision around driver line-ups for shorter races remains a focal point. Tarquini confirmed that the team plans to start with three drivers per car but will assess performance and potential adjustments after the season commences. He commented, “Personally, I want to wait for the real performance…if we need to develop the car, probably we will use two drivers per car on the short races.”

As Genesis Magma Racing approaches its inaugural season with considerable ambition, the intricate balance of experience and innovation within its driver lineup will be integral to their performance on the world stage.
