Scherer Sport PHX Shifts Focus to Audi R8 for 2026 Nürburgring Campaign
Scherer Sport PHX has announced a strategic shift for the 2026 motorsport season, prioritizing its Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II. This decision comes after the team experimented with a Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) in 2025, which achieved notable success, including victories in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie with drivers Laurens Vanthoor and Patric Niederhauser. An unfortunate qualifying accident, however, sidelined the Porsche from last year’s 24H Nürburgring.
Team founder Christian Scherer emphasized the importance of this focus, stating, “In a period of upheaval for the entire automotive industry … we are deliberately concentrating on a single GT3 race car.” The team’s objective is clear: to secure an unprecedented eighth triumph at the ADAC 24H Nürburgring.
For its preparation ahead of May’s endurance race, Scherer Sport PHX has finalized its driver lineup for the ADAC 24H Qualifiers. 2020 race winner Alexander Sims rejoins the team alongside two-time victor Christopher Haase and DTM Trophy champion Ben Green, who makes his debut with the Audi R8. Green’s diverse GT3 experience, having competed in various manufacturers, positions him well for this transition.
The team recently competed at NLS2, with Haase showcasing his skills in a heated battle with Max Verstappen, ultimately finishing sixth alongside Nico Hantke. Team principal Ron Moser noted the R8’s competitiveness, remarking, “We want to show that the Audi R8 LMS is still competitive in the 24-hour race.” He highlighted the excitement generated during the race and the team’s focus on refining their setup before the qualifiers.
The ADAC Qualifiers are scheduled for April 18-19, 2026, leading up to the 24 Hours of Nürburgring from May 14-17, 2026.
