Mick Schumacher Exits Alpine Endurance Team Amid Uncertain Future
In a recent announcement, Alpine Endurance Team confirmed that Mick Schumacher will end his tenure with the FIA WEC Hypercar squad. After two seasons with the team, which included three podium finishes and a top-ten result at Le Mans this year, Schumacher’s departure signifies a notable shift for both the driver and the team.
Schumacher had been linked to a possible reserve role with the Cadillac F1 effort, in conjunction with race appearances for Cadillac Hertz Team Jota. However, those prospects have reportedly been closed off, leaving him without a current seat in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The anticipated opening with Genesis Magma Racing also appears to be unavailable.
Looking ahead to 2026, Schumacher has expressed interest in pursuing an IndyCar seat. Following a recent test with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL), he stated, “INDYCAR comes the closest to what I can still race. I can’t go back to Formula 2… because I won a championship. INDYCAR might be a good option.” He added, “I want to race again in single-seaters, and therefore this option is a good one.”
As for Alpine’s future lineup in 2026, António Félix da Costa is confirmed as a new addition. With Schumacher and Paul Loup Chatin vacating their seats, it remains to be seen if the highly discussed Victor Martins will join the team, or if the Hypercar grid will face more twists in the coming months.
Alpine’s parting message on X reflected appreciation for Schumacher’s contributions: “What great memories we’ve shared over the past two years. Thank you, Mick, for your hard work, dedication, and all your contributions to Alpine Endurance Team. Wishing you all the best for the future.”
