Optimum Motorsport Announces Driver Line-up for Silverstone 500
Silverstone, UK – Yasser Shahin and Garnet Patterson are set to join Optimum Motorsport for the season-opener of the British GT Championship, the Silverstone 500, taking place on April 25-26. The Australian duo will pilot the #3 McLaren GT3 Evo, stepping in for Mike Price and Callum Macleod, who will be competing in the PalmaVela Regatta yacht race.
Shahin brings an impressive pedigree to the team, including a class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a vice-champion title in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s LMGT3 category, and two GT World Challenge Australia championships. He has previously teamed with Patterson in both the GT World Challenge Australia and the Asian Le Mans Series.
“The iconic Silverstone circuit makes this opportunity even more special,” Shahin said. “Competing for the coveted RAC Trophy is a highlight.”
This week, Shahin is participating in the FIA WEC opener at Imola for Manthey Racing, while Patterson recently secured second place at the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) opener in Barcelona with United Autosports’ #23 McLaren LMGT3, showcasing a remarkable recovery from a 12th-place start.
“I’m excited to reunite with Yasser at Silverstone as part of Optimum’s GT3 line-up,” Patterson commented. “We’ve had strong results together, and I look forward to contributing to a successful campaign in the UK’s premiere GT race.”
Optimum Motorsport fields three full-season GT3 entries for this season, including Ben Barnicoat and Morgan Tillbrook in the #77 entry, as well as reigning GT4 champions Marc Warren and Jack Brown in the #90 vehicle. The Silverstone 500 promises to be a competitive start to the British GT season.
