2026 British GT Silverstone 500: Century Motorsport Claims Championship Lead
Silverstone, UK – The 2026 British GT Silverstone 500 saw Century Motorsport’s #44 BMW M4 GT3 Evo surge to the top of the championship standings following its first GT3 event since 2024. Despite not winning, the team amassed 37.5 points, taking advantage of a strategic race that saw them capitalize on circumstances that favored their position.
The race concluded with the #3 Optimum Motorsport McLaren GT3 Evo, driven by Garnet Patterson and Yasser Shahin, claiming victory. However, due to their guest driver status, the pair were ineligible for points. This marked a significant milestone as they became the first Silver-Am drivers to win overall since 2024.
Century’s Jonathan Beeson and SRO GT Academy teammate Charles Clark finished just 1.438 seconds behind the winning McLaren after a late push. Team principal Nathan Freke highlighted key moments during the race: “We knew we had to wait for the right moment, and when the safety car situation unfolded, it allowed us to focus on strategy.”
This podium finish was Century’s first at Silverstone since their 2023 victory and their first overall GT3 podium since the 2023 Donington Decider.
Paradine and Leung/Harper’s Early Dominance Eclipsed
Paradine’s #91 pairing, consisting of 2023 champions Darren Leung and Dan Harper, initially showcased impressive form, securing pole position and maintaining the lead early in the race. However, a drive-through penalty and strategic missteps saw them fall from contention, despite leading for significant periods.
Leung reflected on their challenges, stating, “Our strategy was sound, but the race is unpredictable. Some teams just got lucky with timing.” Their strong showing after qualifying first demonstrated the team’s competitive spirit, remaining determined to rectify their strategy for the next race.
Pro-Am and GT4 Insights
In Pro-Am standings, Orange Racing by JMH emerged strongly with their #67 McLaren GT3 Evo finishing fourth overall, while Beechdean’s #7 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo secured sixth and second in the Pro-Am standings.
In the GT4 category, Innovation Racing made a stunning debut with their #74 Ginetta G56 GT4 Evo, clinching both pole and victory. Teammates Hadley Simpson and Thomas Holland’s performance marked a notable entry into the series, beating rivals such as MK Racing.
GT4 Pro-Am saw the Toro Verde GT #42 Ginetta of Luke Shaw and Jack Mitchell claim victory, showcasing the competitive nature of the category with significant early-season gains.
Conclusion
The Silverstone 500 provided critical insights into team dynamics, strategy execution, and the highly competitive landscape of both GT3 and GT4 categories. With Century Motorsport at the forefront, the race results set the stage for an exhilarating 2026 season.
