Report: Lamborghini Prepares for Temerario GT3 Debut Amid Uncertainty in LMDh Program
Lamborghini’s motorsport leadership convened at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last week to discuss the anticipated Temerario GT3, which is set to make its competitive debut at the 2026 Twelve Hours of Sebring. This vehicle marks Lamborghini’s first fully internally developed GT3 model and is currently undergoing rigorous testing.
Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr confirmed that the program remains on track, pending a crucial board decision expected by the end of October. “We are fully committed to this plan. The timeline is tough, but we have confirmed the plans and are evaluating our progress daily,” Mohr stated.
Post-Sebring, the Temerario GT3 will see a selective rollout in key racing series, particularly the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, due to strong demand for the street version of the V8-hybrid model. “While our street cars take priority in production capacity, we aim to strategically manage the availability of the new race car, minimizing direct competition with the outgoing Huracán GT3,” Mohr elaborated.
IMSA will feature both the new Temerario in the GTD PRO category and the Huracán GT3 EVO2 in GTD at the start of the season. Mohr acknowledged the logistical challenges: “We do not have enough cars for the start of next season.” Some clients could receive the Temerario GT3 before the end of 2026, depending on production capabilities.
Lamborghini’s Head of Motorsport, Maurizio Leschiutta, reported that the car has completed approximately 5,000 kilometers of pre-homologation testing across four Italian tracks. The ambition is to reach 10,000 kilometers by year-end, with additional tests scheduled at Barcelona, Paul Ricard, and an endurance evaluation at Sebring, coinciding with IMSA’s Sanctioned Test at Daytona in November.
Regarding the SC63 LMDh program’s uncertain future, Mohr outlined that a financial partner will be imperative for continued participation in IMSA and WEC beyond 2026. He emphasized the importance of establishing a competitive presence in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, where Lamborghini recently secured a major victory at the Spa 24 Hours.
While Mohr downplayed the likelihood of debuting the Temerario GT3 at the Nürburgring 24 Hours next year, he indicated Spa-Francorchamps might be the preferred venue for its inaugural 24-hour race appearance, should the team proceed with one.
Looking forward, Lamborghini intends to bolster its presence in Asia, particularly through its loyal partner JLOC, which recently achieved its first SUPER GT GT300 title. Mohr reflected on the substantial progress of Pfaff Motorsports in the GTD PRO class, despite recent challenges.
Lamborghini President & CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, captured the essence of the transition from the Huracán GT3 to the Temerario GT3, stating, “The Huracán has greatly exceeded our expectations, marking a significant legacy for the brand.” As the motorsport landscape evolves, Lamborghini remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing emerging talent in motorsports.
As Lamborghini approaches a pivotal phase in its racing history, fan anticipation builds for the arrival of the Temerario GT3 and the continued evolution of the brand in competitive motorsport.
