JMW Motorsport Shifts Focus After ELMS Non-Selection
JMW Motorsport is pivoting its efforts following its exclusion from the 2026 European Le Mans Series (ELMS). The team, a long-time competitor in endurance racing since the series’ inception in 2012, is now concentrating on securing a place in the GT World Challenge Europe’s Endurance Cup.
The non-selection of JMW’s Ferrari LMGT3 was attributed to a crowded entry list and a recent trend of fewer points-scoring opportunities for the team. JMW Motorsport, established by Jim McWhirter, has consistently been a fixture in endurance racing, boasting championship wins in 2007, 2008, 2012, and 2017, along with a 2017 LMGTE Am class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Despite competing in all 76 ELMS races since 2012, JMW faced a setback with its entry rejected again for 2025. While the team’s history includes a notable performance record, the recent years have seen challenges that have dampened its scoring.
The team had planned for a strong 2026 campaign, with contracts signed to retain its driver lineup of Gianmaria Bruni, Jason Hart, and Scott Noble, alongside the acquisition of a new Ferrari 296 GT3, scheduled for delivery after Christmas. However, a recent personal tragedy within the team has further complicated their situation.
Looking ahead, JMW Motorsport is actively exploring alternative racing opportunities, with the GT World Challenge Europe’s Endurance Cup emerging as a primary target. The team aims to finalize its plans swiftly, highlighting a push to remain competitive in endurance racing.
In light of recent events, this situation raises broader questions within the motorsports community regarding entry processes and the timing of decisions impacting privateer teams. As JMW Motorsport transitions, the focus will be on navigating the evolving landscape of competitive endurance racing.
