Tim Miles, Renowned Motorsports Figure, Dies in Cycling Accident

Sydney, Australia – Tim Miles, a prominent figure in motorsports as a GT racer, former Supercars team owner, and supporter of emerging talent, passed away at the age of 58 following a cycling accident on July 6. His death marks a significant loss for the motorsports community both in Australia and New Zealand.

Miles was an active competitor in the GT World Challenge Australia and recently participated in the Ford Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational, where he achieved a podium finish in the Dark Horse Legends class. His passion for racing was evident, and his involvement extended over 35 years, impacting competitors and the sport itself.

Born in Ashburton, New Zealand, Miles transitioned from aspiring racer to successful businessman with his firm, Miles Advisory Partners. His business acumen allowed him to continue his passion for motorsport, where he backed the international careers of notable drivers such as Matt Campbell and Jaxon Evans.

Miles’s contributions were not limited to competition. As co-owner of Triple 8 Engineering, he played a pivotal role in the 2011 sale of Supercars to Archer Capital, a transaction that catalyzed significant developments within the championship.

Supercars released a statement honoring Miles, describing him as “an extraordinary figure in Australian motorsport,” acknowledging both his competitive spirit and his substantial influence off the track.

A family statement reflected on Miles’s vibrant personality, stating, “The world has lost the bright, shining light that was Tim Miles.” His passing leaves a void felt deeply by loved ones, including his wife Tracy and daughters Caley and Erin, as well as the broader motorsports community.
