Nürburgring 24 Hours Qualifying Postponed After Major Incident
Qualifying for the 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours has been postponed due to a significant crash involving Laurens Vanthoor in the #16 Scherer Sport PHX Porsche 911 GT3 R 992. The Belgian driver experienced a high-speed crash at Aremburg after clipping the inside curb at Schwedenkreuz, which resulted in severe damage to the car.
Vanthoor emerged from the incident uninjured but the extent of the damage to the vehicle remains unclear as the team assesses repair possibilities ahead of the race.
According to the N24 live-ticker, the incident necessitates repairs to the guardrail at Aremburg, and a delay of at least 90 minutes is anticipated before qualifying can resume. In the interim, races for the Cup and Touring Car Trophy will transition to the Grand Prix course at approximately 2:30 PM.
The planned restart for the top qualifying session is set for 4:00 PM, with racers starting directly from the pit lane. Participants will then complete an introductory lap of the Nordschleife followed by a single flying lap. Due to this delay, subsequent Qualifying 3 may need to be shortened.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
