Toyota Teases Updated GR010-Hybrid Ahead of FIA WEC Changes

Toyota has unveiled early details of its updated GR010-Hybrid Hypercar, set to debut in the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). This announcement comes as the team grapples with a challenging 2025 season, where they risk finishing without a podium for the first time in their history.

The visual highlights of the upcoming model include significant modifications to the rear wing, front bodywork, and headlight design. While specific performance details remain undisclosed, Toyota’s Vice Chairman, Kazuki Nakajima, stated, “We’re actively working to introduce a new package for next year,” indicating a renewed focus on competitiveness. Testing is scheduled to commence in early October, providing crucial data ahead of the 2026 season.

Kamui Kobayashi, both a driver and team principal, emphasized the team’s need to resolve current performance issues, saying, “We need to clear the problems we’ve been having and build a car that’s crazy fast.” This development comes as part of Toyota’s strategy to enhance its efforts in anticipation of the new hydrogen-powered prototype regulations expected by the end of the decade.

Amidst Toyota’s updates, BMW has already showcased its revised M Hybrid V8, with other manufacturers, including Alpine and Cadillac, set to introduce their own evolutions in the coming months. Toyota plans extensive testing and wind tunnel evaluations through the year to optimize the GR010-Hybrid’s performance as they aim to reclaim dominance in the WEC.

As the 8 Hours of Bahrain approaches, all eyes will be on Toyota as they seek to end the season on a high note while preparing for a significant technical evolution in 2026.
