Suzuka 1000km Pre-Qualifying Report
Suzuka, Japan — Pre-Qualifying for the 49th annual Suzuka 1000km commenced under dry conditions, following severe flooding in Central Japan. The 90-minute session proceeded without red flags or major incidents, showcasing competitive performances from various teams.
Bingo Racing’s #9 Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R, driven by Ukyo Sasahara, secured the top time of the day at 2:00.469, which was a significant improvement over the previous best of 2:01.238 set by Giancarlo Fisichella in the #60 LM Corsa Ferrari 296 GT3. Sasahara’s impressive run followed a strong performance in Friday’s paid test session, highlighting the C7’s legacy in what could be its final race.
“This car always brings some good luck to me,” Sasahara noted. “I hope to finish on a high and keep it in good shape.”
With approximately 35 minutes remaining, Nicky Catsburg improved the #2 JMR Corvette Z06 GT3.R’s position to second overall with a time of 2:00.861, just ahead of Thomas Neubauer in the #555 Maezawa Racing Ferrari, who clocked in at 2:01.113 for third.
Harry King, piloting the #61 EBM GIGA Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R, followed closely in fifth with a time of 2:01.637, despite the onset of rain that hindered further improvements. Leaderboard positions were as follows:
