Wright Motorsports Transitions Ownership to Adam Adelson
Wright Motorsports has officially announced the transition of ownership to driver Adam Adelson, succeeding founder John Wright. This strategic shift comes as Adelson aims to expand the team’s mission while maintaining its respected legacy in the motorsport industry.
Team Manager Bob Viglione, who has overseen technical and operational advancements for the past 14 years, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Wright will remain with the team to provide guidance, drawing on a rich history including victories at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Twelve Hours of Sebring, alongside championships in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the GT World Challenge America.
In a statement, Adelson expressed his commitment to enhancing the team’s customer programs for 2026 and beyond, stating, “John built one of the most respected teams in the paddock, and my goal is to build on that foundation, not change it.” His ambitions extend to expanding Wright Motorsports’ customer racing footprint across North America and Europe, as well as exploring car development opportunities.
Adelson, who debuted in professional racing six years ago, achieved considerable success with Wright Motorsports, including his first IMSA WeatherTech GTD win at Indianapolis and a championship title in the GT World Challenge America. This year, the team finished second in the GTD class at the Rolex 24, and Adelson claimed victories at Daytona in the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge.
John Wright, reflecting on his decision to pass ownership, praised Adelson’s vision and passion for racing. “It felt like the right time and the right people to carry it forward,” he stated, emphasizing the team’s strong community ties and history, underscoring that success hinges on the contributions of every team member.
The transition marks a significant moment for Wright Motorsports, with an eye toward potential future ventures, including an entry into the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Wright noted, “Adam’s going to do it. And one day, I hope to see a Wright car at Le Mans.”
Viglione highlighted the continuity of the team’s identity, stating, “This is a new chapter, but not a new identity.” As the team forges ahead, its focus is on building championship-worthy programs while nurturing talent to ensure sustainable growth in a competitive landscape.
Wright Motorsports stands poised for a new era, driven by ambition and a commitment to excellence in motorsports.
