Lamborghini Squadra Corse Announces Departure of Romain Grosjean
Lamborghini Squadra Corse has officially confirmed the departure of Romain Grosjean after three years as a factory driver. Grosjean joined the team following a decade in Formula 1 and concurrent participation in the NTT IndyCar Series, tasked with the development of the SC63 LMDh prototype during 2023 and into 2024.
Notably, Grosjean achieved a seventh-place finish during the SC63’s global debut at the 2024 Twelve Hours of Sebring. His standout performance in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship occurred at the season-ending Petit Le Mans, where he secured a fourth-place finish—marking the SC63’s final appearance before the project enters a minimum one-year hiatus. In its inaugural run at the 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours, the vehicle finished 13th overall.
In a statement, Lamborghini noted, “From his first laps in Almería in 2023 to the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, the journey has been filled with emotions and milestones… culminating at Road Atlanta, where the team earned a well-deserved fourth place—a testament to their resilience, growth, and determination. But now it’s time to say goodbye… Thank you, Romain, for the passion, talent, and commitment you brought to the track with us. See you on the asphalt!”
The decision comes as Grosjean expresses interest in a potential return to IndyCar in 2026. In a September interview with RACER, he indicated a preference to continue his sports car racing career in prototypes rather than transition to a GT3 role within Lamborghini.
