Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo Set for Competitive Debut at 12H Spa-Francorchamps
This weekend, the newly updated Porsche 911 GT3 R evo will make its competitive debut in the 12-hour race at Circuit Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. The event, organized by Creventic, features a diverse grid of GT3, GT4, 992 Cup, and touring cars, split into two segments: five hours of racing on Saturday, followed by seven hours on Sunday.
The evo model is being campaigned by Herberth Motorsport, a long-standing customer team. They will field a driver lineup that includes reigning IMSA GTD Pro Champion Laurin Heinrich, alongside Ralf Bohn and Alfred Renauer.
The debut comes as part of the car’s development program, with a full commercial launch expected later this summer and a customer rollout planned for 2026. The 911 GT3 R evo builds on the existing 911 GT3 R 992, which has already achieved significant success, including class titles in the FIA WEC, DTM, IGTC, and IMSA GTD Pro, as well as victories at iconic races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Porsche’s engineering team has focused on enhancing driveability, implementing aerodynamic modifications to reduce pitch sensitivity, thereby improving front-end behavior during acceleration and braking. Key software updates and refinements to the steering system further enhance the vehicle’s performance.
Sebastian Golz, project manager for the 911 GT3 R, remarked: "The Creventic Series offers the ideal environment for such an important test. The competition features numerous privateer teams at a high level, ample track time, and the formidable challenge of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit." He also highlighted the value of feedback from Herberth Motorsport on vehicle handling and operational functions from an experienced customer team perspective.
Further technical details on the 911 GT3 R evo will be released in subsequent updates as the car progresses through its development stages.
