ZRS Motorsport Claims First Outright Win for New Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo at International GT Open
Portimão, Portugal – ZRS Motorsport made a remarkable debut at the International GT Open, securing the first outright victory for the Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo (992) on European tarmac. Driven by Alex Fontana and Pietro Armanni, the #911 entry clinched the win in Race 1 after Fontana achieved pole position in the opening qualifying session of the 2026 season.
The team executed a flawless race, transitioning from last year’s GT Cup Europe efforts with the 911 GT3 Cup (992.1) to the more advanced Evo model. This victory marks ZRS Motorsport’s first GT Open win since their last triumph with the previous generation 911 GT3 R (992) in 2024.
Nicolò Zambon, who manages the racing division, was absent from the event due to commitments at the Red Bull Ring. His father, Alessandro Zambon, led the team in Portugal, and expressed surprise at their competitive performance. “Getting into GT3 at this time was the right move for us,” he noted. “The Porsche 992 Evo is a very good car, and Fontana and Armanni are a strong driver pairing.”
Fontana, a seasoned racer, and Armanni, last year’s GT Cup Europe vice-champion, displayed a combination of experience and youth, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Jody Firth, a respected race engineer involved in both this victory and the previous one, praised the drivers’ performance: “Credit must go to Alex and Pietro, who were superb. It’s an honor to give the new Porsche its first European outright win.”
With only two days of testing prior to this race, ZRS Motorsport is optimistic about competing for the championship throughout the season.
