FIA International GT Open Season Finale Set for Barcelona
The 2026 International GT Open season will culminate this weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, following a rain-affected debut FIA WEC race last week. With 35 GT3 entries registered, the event marks the series’ return to the iconic venue after three years.
The sprint-style competition will see key championship contenders vying for points in the crucial 70- and 60-minute races. Elite Motorsport’s #17 Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo, driven by Britons Tom Emson and Tom Lebbon, leads the standings with 138 points, holding a narrow advantage over Greystone GT’s #33 McLaren GT3 Evo pairing of Zac Meakin and Dean Macdonald, who sit on 122 and 117 points, respectively.
“It’s all about consistency at this stage,” Meakin stated, underscoring the pressure both teams face. The championship narrative has been particularly intense after previous clashes at Misano and the Hungaroring.
ZRS Motorsport’s #911 Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo, driven by Alex Fontana and Pietro Armanni, ranks third with 112 points, remaining a mathematical title contender with 30 points available per race.
Team Motopark enters with heightened ambition following a near-win in Italy where a last-minute suspension failure cost them a victory. The #71 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo team, featuring Maximilian Götz and Christian Mansell, will seek redress and capitalize on previous successes.
Scuderia Villorba Corse comes into the finale bolstered by their recent victory at Monza, while various teams are eager for podium finishes, including AF Corse’s #51 Ferrari and seasoned McLaren driver Joe Osborne, who returns to GT Open after three years.
Pro-Am and Am Championship Battles
In the Pro-Am class, Fach Auto Tech’s Charles Bateman leads with 88 points, closely followed by Alexander Fach on 80. With ten points awarded for a Pro-Am class win, this category promises a thrilling finale.
In the Am category, Joel Monegro of Fach Auto Tech could become the first Dominican driver to win a GT title in Europe. Currently leading with 92 points, he is pursued by Adrian Lewandowski’s sole-driven Ferrari at Baron Motorsport.
Race Schedule
Qualifying for Race 1 starts on Saturday, October 24, at 10:40 CEST, followed by the first race at 15:10. The second qualifying session takes place on Sunday, October 25, at 09:00 CET, with Race 2 scheduled for 13:30.
As the curtain falls on the 2026 GT Open season, teams and drivers are primed for a gripping showdown in Barcelona.
