Ritomo Miyata Returns to SUPER GT with CarGuy MKS Racing
Mobility Resort Motegi, Japan – CarGuy MKS Racing has confirmed the return of Ritomo Miyata to the Autobacs SUPER GT Series, where he will pilot the #7 Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo in the upcoming double-header finale of the 2026 season at Motegi. This marks a significant comeback for the 27-year-old driver, who won the GT500 championship three years ago at the same venue before his challenging stint in European motorsport.
Miyata, a Toyota works driver, recently secured his first victory in the FIA Formula 2 Championship at the Madrid hybrid street circuit. He replaces Zak O’Sullivan, who will vacate the SUPER GT campaign early to focus on his commitments with Envision Racing in the FIA Formula E Championship.
Miyata has previously competed in GT500 with Toyota and has experience in the FIA World Endurance Championship, finishing third in LMGTE Am at the 2023 6 Hours of Fuji alongside Kessel Racing and CarGuy Racing. His Toyota stint also included a notable performance in the 2024 European Le Mans Series, where he claimed victories at Barcelona and Portimão.
Despite a challenging three-year journey in Formula 2, where he has fallen out of contention for a Formula 1 seat, Miyata’s return to Japanese racing places him in a strong position as he looks towards a future with Toyota in 2027.
In parallel, Kiyoshi Umegaki, an 18-year-old rookie in the GT300 class, is in contention for a historical achievement at the Motegi Grand Final on November 7-8. Currently third in the Drivers’ standings, Umegaki trails the leaders by 20 points. A win could make him the youngest race winner in SUPER GT history, and an overall championship victory would solidify his status as the youngest champion in either class.
The stakes are high as both drivers prepare for decisive races at Motegi, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the 2026 season.
