Tragic Loss in NASCAR: Greg Biffle Dies in Plane Crash
Statesville, N.C. — Greg Biffle, a celebrated figure in NASCAR, tragically died at 56 in a plane crash on Thursday morning near Statesville Regional Airport. The incident claimed the lives of Biffle’s wife Cristina, their son Ryder, his daughter Emma (14, from a previous marriage), and three others, including Craig Wadsworth and Dennis Dutton.
The Cessna C550 Citation, owned by Biffle, went down shortly after 10 AM ET as it approached the airport, a hub frequently used within the NASCAR community. Both the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have initiated investigations into the crash.
NASCAR expressed deep sorrow regarding the loss. “Greg was more than a champion driver; he was a beloved member of the NASCAR community, a fierce competitor, and a friend to so many,” a statement read. His last competitive event was in 2022 at Talladega, marking a remarkable return to the sport after a lengthy hiatus.
In a joint statement, the families of the victims expressed their heartbreak: “This tragedy has left all of our families heartbroken beyond words.” They highlighted Greg and Cristina’s dedication to their children and philanthropic efforts.
