GT America Race Report: Circuit of The Americas
Austin, TX – The second race of the GT America powered by AWS weekend at Circuit of The Americas showcased intense competition across both the SRO3 and GT4 classes, further tightening the championship battle.
SRO3 Class Highlights
Justin Rothberg claimed victory in the SRO3 class in his No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3. Rothberg, who started from pole after Elias Sabo was unable to compete, navigated a fierce challenge from Kyle Washington, who drove the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R.
Washington briefly took the lead with 16 minutes remaining, but Rothberg responded decisively within three minutes, regaining the top position and maintaining it to the finish line. Ross Chouest finished third in his No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Corvette Z06 GT3.R, marking his first podium in GT America.
Post-race, Rothberg commented, “That was one of the most fun races I’ve had in a while. Kyle was in my mirrors the entire time… That’s what you want in racing.”
GT4 Class Overview
In the GT4 category, Max Hewitt dominated the race after starting from pole in his No. 39 van der Steur Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO. Despite early pressure from Anthony McIntosh in the No. 69 JTR Engineering Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4, Hewitt built a lead of over two seconds within the first 15 minutes.
Mid-race drama unfolded for McIntosh when a loose exhaust created a potential setback, but a fortunate bump over a curb allowed him to continue unimpeded. As the race progressed, McIntosh attempted to narrow the gap, yet Hewitt ultimately increased his pace, securing victory with a calculated drive.
“I went out there and stretched my legs in the beginning… After that, it was just all about conserving those tires,” Hewitt explained.
