IMSA Prepares for Chevrolet Sports Car Classic at Detroit
Detroit, MI — IMSA has announced the entry list for the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic, set to take place next Saturday, May 31, at the Detroit Renaissance Center street circuit. This event will feature the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship alongside IndyCar during the Detroit Grand Prix weekend.
A total of 22 entries will compete: 11 full-season GTP cars and 10 entries from GTD PRO, with an additional entry from Vasser Sullivan Racing. Vasser Sullivan will field two Lexus RC F GT3s, with Aaron Telitz joined by Jack Hawksworth in the No. 14 entry, replacing the recovering Ben Barnicoat. Parker Thompson will transition to GTD PRO, driving the renumbered No. 15 Lexus alongside Frankie Montecalvo.
Porsche Penske Motorsport maintains a commanding lead in GTP standings after four races, with its No. 7 Porsche 963, driven by Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy, leading by 91 points over the No. 6 Porsche of Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell, who recently secured their first victory at Laguna Seca.
BMW M Team RLL’s entries rank third and fourth, with the No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8 trailing by 280 points and the No. 25 trailing by 353 points. Cadillac’s Jack Aitken is currently fifth, with Acura Meyer Shank Racing’s Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly in sixth.
Defending winners Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque of Wayne Taylor Racing will aim for their first win of the season in their No. 10 Cadillac V-Series.R, navigating the challenges of the narrow GM RenCen street course.
In the GTP manufacturers’ standings, Porsche leads with a substantial 164-point margin over BMW, followed by Cadillac and Acura.
The recent race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca has reshuffled the GTD PRO standings. Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler of AO Racing have captured their second win of the season, placing them at the top of the drivers’ standings. They enjoy a 70-point lead over Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims, while Albert Costa of DragonSpeed sits third, 75 points behind.
AO Racing also confirmed the return of the "Roxy" livery in recognition of their recent IMSA victory. Porsche leads the GTD PRO manufacturers’ standings by 62 points, with BMW, Ferrari, Chevrolet, and Ford closely contesting for second place, separated by just 20 points.
