WEC Monza: Key Insights Ahead of the Season Finale
As the FIA WEC season approaches its conclusion at Monza, notable developments highlight an eventful weekend ahead.
WRT’s Unique Liveries
Team WRT’s #69 BMW M4 LMGT3 Evo showcases its denim livery, part of a campaign featuring eight distinctive designs throughout the season. Additionally, the #32 BMW honors the late Alex Zanardi with Olympic-ring-inspired stripes, a tribute conceived by Augusto Farfus and executed by Bronze driver Darren Leung.
“Alex’s spirit will always be part of motorsport,” Leung remarked, noting his upcoming participation in the Asian Le Mans Series after the WEC finale.
Legends of Le Mans Participation
Nineteen cars will race in the final round of the Legends of Le Mans series, with noteworthy entries such as Alfie Briggs’ Lola B12/60 and multiple Porsche 911s. The event showcases both newcomers and established names, enhancing the weekend’s prestige.
Transition in Tyre Technology
The race marks the final outing for Goodyear’s current LMGT3 tyre, with a new specification set for introduction in 2027. Stephen Bickley, Goodyear endurance program manager, stated, “This weekend is significant as we conclude three seasons with our current tyre specification.” Monza will be the 14th circuit for this tyre since its debut in 2024.
Tributes to Motorsport Icons
The #7 Toyota TR010 HYBRID pays homage to Mike Conway, who is retiring post-race, featuring ‘Thank You Mike’ decals. Concurrently, Alpine Endurance Team commemorates its final WEC performance with the emotional tagline “Racing Spirit Forever,” alongside a celebratory display of its 1978 Le Mans-winning car.
Sustainability Initiatives
In a collaborative effort, 35 oak trees have been planted around Monza, symbolizing the cars on the grid and aiding local environmental restoration efforts. FIA WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien emphasized, “Sustainability is fundamental for the FIA WEC, and we are committed to leaving a positive legacy.”
As the teams prepare for an action-packed finale, both technical advancements and tributes to the sport’s legends enhance the significance of this weekend’s events.
