2026 GT World Challenge Asia: Championship Decider in Shanghai
The 2026 GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS is set to culminate with two decisive races at Shanghai International Circuit on October 31 and November 1. This marks the first championship showdown at this venue since 2024, with 19 cars confirmed for the event.
Recent results from the Beijing Street Race saw Harmony Racing and Absolute Racing sharing overall victories. Despite a challenging Race 1, where Origine Motorsport’s Lu Wei crashed out, he secured a second-place finish in Race 2, maintaining his lead in the Drivers’ Championship. Joining Lu for the final races will be Porsche works driver Laurin Heinrich in the #11 Porsche 911 GT3 R as they pursue a third consecutive overall title.
Trailing Wei are Absolute Racing’s Huang Ruohan and Alessandro Ghiretti, just five points behind in the #911 Porsche. Four additional teams remain in contention; notable among them is the FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom’s #16 Audi, which leads the Silver class.
The Silver-Am Cup is led by GTO with KRC’s #10 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, with Brian Lee and Maxime Oosten holding a 10-point advantage over Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Liang Jiatong. The race for the SRO GT Academy trophy sees Oosten trailing Yu Kuai by 14 points.
In the Am Cup, the competition is tight, with only 12 points separating the leading Climax Racing Mercedes-AMG from the Origine Porsche.
First-time participants include BMW M factory driver Tim Tramnitz, who will drive the #89 Team KRC BMW, and a new driver pairing in the #918 Absolute Racing Porsche featuring British GT standout Kevin Tse alongside Alessio Picariello.
All races and qualifying sessions will be broadcast live on the SRO GT World YouTube channel.
